For someone who rides every day, an equally important consideration is how consistently the battery can support useful range as the vehicle accumulates kilometres and charge-discharge cycles over the years.

Two common lithium-ion battery chemistries used in electric vehicles are Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC).<\/p>\n

NMC batteries offer high energy density, which can help deliver higher capacity from a compact battery pack. LFP batteries, on the other hand, are particularly well suited to applications where long cycle life, durability and thermal stability are priorities.<\/p>\n

The difference becomes more significant as the battery accumulates charge-discharge cycles.<\/p>\n

According to Suzuki’s in-house measurements and battery-life comparisons, the LFP battery used in the e-ACCESS shows slower degradation than the conventional NMC batteries evaluated in the comparison, helping it retain range more consistently over a longer period.<\/p>\n

Suzuki states that its LFP battery technology provides up to four times longer battery life<\/a> compared with conventional NMC batteries. In practical terms, this means the battery can undergo significantly more charge-discharge cycles before reaching the same level of degradation.<\/p>\n

For riders, this supports greater confidence that the scooter can continue delivering dependable performance as usage increases over time.<\/p>\n

Why the 1\u20132 Year Period Matters<\/h2>\n

Battery degradation does not always become obvious during the early stages of EV ownership. Suzuki’s long-term range comparison illustrates that some NMC battery-equipped vehicles may offer higher range initially, but their practical range can decline faster as the battery ages.<\/p>\n

According to Suzuki’s in house comparison, the available range of the NMC-equipped vehicles and the LFP-equipped e-ACCESS converges after approximately one to two years of usage. Beyond this point, the slower degradation of the LFP battery becomes increasingly relevant as total driving distance increases.<\/p>\n

The e-ACCESS takes an approach centred on lower degradation and longer cycle life, allowing useful range to remain more consistent over extended usage. Rather than viewing range only as an initial specification, this approach considers the range a rider can continue to rely on as the vehicle gets older.<\/p>\n

Suzuki e-ACCESS: 95 km Certified Range with a Long-Life LFP Battery<\/h2>\n

The Suzuki e-ACCESS is equipped with a fixed 51.2 V, 60 Ah, 3.072 kWh LFP battery.<\/p>\n

It delivers a certified riding range of 95 km as per AIS-040, with energy consumption rated at 39 Wh\/km as per AIS-039. The significance of the LFP battery, however, goes beyond the certified range figure itself.<\/p>\n

With its extended cycle life and more gradual degradation characteristics compared with conventional NMC chemistry, the battery is engineered to help the e-ACCESS deliver more dependable range performance as usage accumulates.<\/p>\n

Actual riding range will naturally vary depending on factors such as riding style, speed, traffic conditions, load, terrain, temperature and other operating conditions. Battery ageing is also influenced by usage and charging patterns.<\/p>\n

The advantage of LFP should therefore not be interpreted as a claim that battery capacity or riding range will remain permanently unchanged. Battery ageing is a natural characteristic of rechargeable batteries. The advantage lies in engineering the battery for slower degradation and longer-lasting performance.<\/p>\n

Consistent Performance Even at Low Battery Levels<\/h2>\n

Range consistency also matters during each individual journey. As the State of Charge (SoC) of an EV battery decreases, riders should still be able to depend on predictable acceleration and response.<\/p>\n
