Whether you ride the Suzuki Access, the Avenis, or the V-Strom SX, SEP is at the heart of what makes these machines tick.<\/p>\n<p>This blog breaks down what SEP is, how it works, and why it matters for riders in India.<\/p>\n<h2>What Does SEP Stand For?<\/h2>\n<p>SEP stands for Suzuki Eco Performance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S = Suzuki<\/li>\n<li>E = Eco (Low Fuel Consumption)<\/li>\n<li>P = Performance (Superior Acceleration)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suzukimotorcycle.co.in\/sep\">SEP<\/a> is a concept proposed by Suzuki. At Suzuki, great attention is paid to riding performance, and SEP stands for Suzuki&#8217;s next-generation engine that offers both low fuel consumption and superior acceleration.<\/p>\n<p>In short, it is the forward-looking engine development concept behind the creation of Suzuki powerplants that deliver superior fuel efficiency while also achieving the seemingly contradictory feature of powerful acceleration.<\/p>\n<h2>Why SEP Exists: The Problem It Solves<\/h2>\n<p>Traditionally, making an engine more fuel-efficient meant compromising on performance. More economy usually meant less punch. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suzukimotorcycle.co.in\/\">Suzuki<\/a> engineers set out to challenge this trade-off.<\/p>\n<p>SEP sets higher standards for environmental performance in both fuel consumption and emission, but without compromising riding performance. The goal was to make daily life on the bike more eco-friendly, yet more performance-oriented at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>SEP brings riders the excellent balance of fuel economy and riding performance they have been waiting for.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Ideal Combustion Efficiency<\/h3>\n<p>The combustion chamber shape and intake port design are optimised to maximise the flow velocity of the air-fuel mixture. A key innovation here is the Suzuki M-Squish Combustion Chamber, which generates a squish flow within the chamber.<\/p>\n<p>Combined with a banana-shaped intake port, this creates ideal combustion conditions by leveraging the synergistic effect of squish flow and the swirl flow of the air-fuel mixture entering the chamber. The fuel injection system also plays a role.<\/p>\n<p>Its advanced fuel injection contributes excellent combustion efficiency while supporting BS6 compliance. Precise control over fuel delivery makes engine starts easier and more reliable, even in cold weather. The mounting angle of the injector is optimised for excellent combustion efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a high-ignition nickel spark plug with a thin, protruding electrode allows ignition at the centre of the combustion chamber, achieving maximum combustion efficiency.<\/p>\n<h3>2. High Compression Ratio<\/h3>\n<p>All aspects of the SEP engine design are geared to achieving a high compression ratio, which results in low fuel consumption and powerful engine output. This includes the application of a relatively long stroke and the optimisation of the combustion chamber shape, which adopts the M-shaped squish area and banana-shaped intake port mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p>Upright positioning of the intake valve and a relatively narrow angle between the valves contribute to intake efficiency and to realizing the engine&#8217;s high compression ratio.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Low Friction and Mechanical Loss<\/h3>\n<p>Measures to reduce friction and mechanical loss include an optimised piston skirt and piston pin design, as well as the use of low-tensile piston rings, a low-friction cylinder wall treatment, roller rocker arms, and low-friction components in the oil pump.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Optimized CVT Settings (for scooter applications)<\/h3>\n<p>In scooter applications, the finely tuned CVT transmission delivers satisfying acceleration at low rpm, without having to open the throttle excessively. The CVT settings are also effective in limiting fuel consumption. By matching the CVT settings to vehicle speed in the 30-60 km\/h range, the engine&#8217;s rpm rises gradually to deliver a pleasing feeling much like that of a motorcycle.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Light, Compact Engine Design<\/h3>\n<p>Suzuki engineers made a dedicated effort to minimise the weight of every part possible. The resulting benefits include greater fuel efficiency, increased performance, and more powerful acceleration. A lighter engine also contributes to nimble handling and greater flexibility in styling design.<\/p>\n<h2>SEP on Suzuki Access: A Closer Look<\/h2>\n<p>Suzuki Access is one of the best examples of SEP in action. Its 125cc, single-cylinder, 4-Stroke, SOHC, 2-Valve, Air-Cooled engine delivers peak horsepower of 6.2 kW at 6,500 rpm and maximum torque of 10.2 Nm at 5,000 rpm.<\/p>\n<p>The SEP engine that powers the Access delivers specific benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Greater Torque at Lower RPM:<\/strong> Maximum torque is achieved at 5,000 rpm, enhancing fuel efficiency, improving acceleration response, and adding to overall riding pleasure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fuel Efficiency:<\/strong> Changes including a modified injector mounting angle, revised CVT settings, and a lowered idling rpm contribute to smoother performance and better mileage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Better Acceleration Feeling:<\/strong> The CVT is matched to vehicle speed in the 30-60 km\/h range, so the engine&#8217;s rpm rises gradually, delivering a pleasing feeling much like that of a motorcycle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Combustion Efficiency:<\/strong> A precisely tuned camshaft profile with higher intake cam lift ensures greater air intake and optimized exhaust timing for efficient combustion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Access 125 SEP engine weighs in at just 32.9 kg, a result of that dedicated effort to minimise weight at every opportunity.<\/p>\n<h2>SEP on Suzuki V-Strom SX: Performance at 249cc<\/h2>\n<p>SEP is not limited to scooters. The V-Strom SX carries a 249cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder, 4-valve, oil-cooled SOHC engine that produces 26.5 PS at 9,300 rpm and 22.2 Nm at 7,300 rpm.<\/p>\n<p>Suzuki Eco Performance engines balance the concepts of excellent fuel economy and strong engine performance at a very high level. This is made possible through weight-saving and friction-reducing technology contributing to low fuel consumption while retaining ample torque and power characteristics.
